The annual "Gone Fishing" event for disabled children will be held
this Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 9:00 am at the Veterans Rest Camp on
Big Marine Lake. The event began in 1990 and was arranged by Blackie
Vruno, an avid fisherman who thought it was important for all
children to enjoy the sport of fishing. He originally worked with a
group home in West St. Paul, but the event has since been expanded
to include other group homes, primarily from Washington County.
The annual event continues to be very successful, and this year will
allow (35) disabled children to fish on Big Marine Lake. The event
is funded by generous donations from area businesses, nonprofit
organizations, and individuals. Many of the volunteers are from the
St. Paul Park VFW. Several boat owners donate their equipment and
time to provide a safe and enjoyable time for the kids. The
Washington County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputies also donate
their time to ensure the safety of the kids.
The donations provide fishing gear, life jackets, a t-shirt,
baseball cap and wind jacket, as well as a lunch and refreshments
following the event.

Three adult males were arrested on Saturday,
January 7th at the address 9797 202nd Street North in Forest Lake,
Washington County Sheriff Steve Pott announced today. The arrests
were the result of a narcotics search warrant executed at the
residence, stemming from an investigation conducted by members of
the Washington County Coordinated Narcotics Task Force. Found inside
the home was an extensive marijuana grow operation, which included
automated watering, fertilizing and lighting sources. More than 650
marijuana plants were seized from the residence along with extensive
mechanical equipment associated with the grow. The street value of
the seized plants is estimated to be approximately $500,000. The
Forest Lake grow operation was larger than any of the single
marijuana grow operations discovered in St. Paul Park three weeks
ago, according to Sheriff Pott. There is no known connection to the
St. Paul Park grow operations discovered in December 2005.
Arrested at the scene were John Gregory Payton,
DOB/06301969, of Woodbury, Antonio Ray Okeefe, DOB/02211967 and
Emmanuel Pierre Margreth, DOB/12041968 both of Coon Rapids. All
three individuals were arrested for 1st degree Controlled Substance
violations. The case was developed based on information received by
the Narcotics Task Force from the Minneapolis Police Department. In
addition to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Forest Lake
Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Woodbury Police
Department participated in the investigation and search warrant. A
second search warrant was conducted at the Woodbury residence of

locations in the city of St. Paul Park and involved the combined
efforts of the Washington County Coordinated Narcotics Task Force,

the assistance of the Washington County Special Response Team,
executed two search warrants simultaneously at two separate St. Paul
Park addresses, as a result of the continuing investigation.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be
conducting a vehicle noise enforcement saturation in the City of
Mahtomedi and the Village of Willernie during the month of August.
The primary objective is to identify vehicles with loud exhaust
caused by failure to utilize a legally defined muffler or use of an
exhaust system that causes the exhaust from the vehicle to be
amplified, thereby allowing the noise of combustion to be louder
than the overall noise of the vehicle in normal operation.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the citizens
of Mahtomedi and Willernie and have fielded numerous complaints
reference loud exhaust from vehicles driving through the downtown
area. Our goal is to identify violations and handle them
appropriately to assist in lowering the overall noise pollution in
the downtown district of Mahtomedi and Willernie.
Questions or comments regarding the up-coming enforcement period
should be directed to Sgt. Tom Stafford of the Sheriff’s Office. He
can be reached at (651) 439-9381.
The following Minnesota Statute will be used in determining if the
noise of a particular vehicle is excessive.
Minnesota State Statute 169.69 Muffler.
Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in
good working order which blends the exhaust noise into the overall
vehicle noise and is in constant operation to prevent excessive or
unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass, or
similar device upon a motor vehicle on a street or highway.
The exhaust system shall not emit or produce a sharp popping or
crackling sound. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be
equipped with such parts and equipment so arranged and kept in such
state of repair as to prevent carbon monoxide gas from entering the
interior of the vehicle.
No person shall have for sale, sell or offer for sale or use on any
motor vehicle any muffler that fails to comply with the
specifications as required by the commissioner of public safety.
